The Hermès Chasse enInde silk scarf is a distinguished design that reflects the brand's dedication to artistry and cultural themes. Created by artist Michel Duchene, it was first introduced in1986 to commemorate the "Year of India."
The scarf draws inspiration from a silk bed throw embroidered with gold threads from Benares, which adorned the dining room of the Indian Ambassador to France. This tapestry depicted intricate hunting scenes, which Duchene artfully reinterpreted for Hermès.
The design portrays a vibrant hunting scene set in India, featuring hunters on elephants, horseback, and on foot, pursuing various animals such as tigers, gazelles, and birds. The central area is teeming with wildlife amidst lush jungle flora. Surrounding the central scene are decorative bands with repetitive motifs of characters and animals, reminiscent of traditional Indian block-print textiles.
The intricate design and cultural significance make this scarf a sought-after piece among collectors and fashion enthusiasts.
